HELP STOP GLOBAL WARMING........

If you have not gotten round to setting up your recycling perhaps now is a good time with all the focus on COP 17, for me this helped as I don't have to take the rubbish bags out as often as I now have two bins...........and I feel I am doing my small bit to help our Planet, in Monday's paper there was a protestor with a placard that said "are you trading your grand children in for a 4 x 4"......sobering thought............

Stopping global warming isn't something that only scientists, environmentalists and governments can do. In fact, people can do many things to put the brakes on climate change. Increasing worldwide temperatures from greenhouse gases cause numerous effects, ranging from a surge in sea levels to melting glaciers and frequent heatwaves. Thus, stopping global warming is vital to protecting the environment.

Stopgloablwarming.org - Greenland's glaciers are melting into the sea twice as fast as previously believed....read more on what you can do to help our Planet and click on the icon in the top left corner of my website or the banner below to support "Stop Global Warming Virtual March"

Ten things to do to help stop global warming

Switch of the lights
Remember to switch off the lights when you leave a room in your house. Leaving unneeded lights turned on is a waste of electricity and harmful to the environment. Artificial lighting accounts for around 15 percent of your energy bill. Flicking the switch will save you money on your utility bills.

Boiling Water in the Kettle
Make sure you only put enough water in the kettle for your exact needs. People often fill the kettle with a rough estimate of how much water they need but waste hot water and energy in the process. Fill your cup with cold water and pour this amount into the kettle.

Don't Leave Water Running
Many people leave the water running when they are brushing their teeth or washing the dishes. This is a massive waste of energy and not very environmentally friendly. Stop the tap while you are brushing your teeth and run it when you wish to swill your toothbrush. Likewise, fill the sink with hot water and put the plug in when you wash dishes to avoid unnecessary waste.

Recycle
Recycling should be at the top of your priorities if you wish to stop global warming. Recycling is the processing of used or waste materials so they can be made into new products, a process that requires far fewer greenhouse gas emissions than making virgin products. Get into a habit of dividing plastics, paper, tin and aluminum and recycling them. Buy products that are made from recycled materials.

Take Public Transport
Gas and diesel are composed of fossil fuels that contribute to global warming when burnt to fuel cars. Using public transport as opposed to your car will help to lower the number of individual cars on the roads and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Similarly, if possible carpool with coworkers.

Stop Using Aerosols

Deodorant aerosols contain methane, a greenhouse gas that has a negative effect on the environment and the ozone layer. Alternatives to aerosols, such as roll-ons, are equally effective.

Insulate Your House

A well-insulated house will naturally stay warmer in the winter and cool in the summer, requiring less gas or electricity. In some areas you may be able to get a government grant to subsidize the cost of installing insulation. Likewise, double-glazed windows will save you money and reduce energy waste.

Use Renewable Energy Sources
Investigate how you can use renewable energy sources to power your house and heat your home. The most common residential renewable energy source is a solar panel that can be attached to the roof of your house and connected to the furnace.

Turn Off Household Appliances
Leaving household appliances on standby wastes thousands of pounds of carbon dioxide every year. You may think that the little red light on your appliance means that it is turned off, but leaving electrical items on standby accounts for around 5 percent of household energy bills. Turn off your appliance at the power function on the machine itself.

Plant a Tree
Planting a tree is the most symbolic and one of the most helpful ways to stop global warming as an average tree will absorb one ton of carbon dioxide during the course of its life
